What’s New & Major Updates

• The 2026 Tiguan is based on VW’s new MQB evo platform, which brings lighter weight (~170 lbs reduction), more rigidity, and improved handling. 

• Design refresh: sharper styling, higher front nose, shorter rear overhang, LED light bar front & rear, illuminated VW logos, slim headlights, more aerodynamic details, new color options (e.g. Avocado Green Pearl, Monterey Blue Pearl, Ascot Grey) 

• Inside, more premium materials & tech: genuine American walnut wood décor, double-stitched center console, upscale upholstery (e.g. Varenna quilted leather in higher trims)

• trim‑levels: there’s a new top performance trim, SEL R‑Line Turbo, with boosted power. 

Performance & Powertrains

• The base engine is still a 2.0‑litre turbocharged four‑cylinder (≈ 201 hp, ~207 lb‑ft torque) in most trims.

• The SEL R‑Line Turbo trim lifts things: ~ 268 hp and ~ 258 lb‑ft torque. Stronger internals, larger turbo, etc. 

• Transmission: 8‑speed automatic across the board. 

• All‑Wheel‑Drive (“4MOTION”) is available (or standard on higher trims) for better traction in bad weather. 

Features & Interior

• Infotainment: standard screen in lower trims is ~ 12.9‑inch, and higher trims can get a 15‑inch touchscreen.

• Digital instrument cluster (“Digital Cockpit Pro”) standard. 

• Comfort features in higher trims: heated/ventilated & massaging front seats, 12‑way adjustable front seats, tri‑zone climate control.

• Sound systems: available Harman Kardon 12‑speaker premium audio in more upscale versions. 

Practicality, Space, Safety

• Seating: 5 passenger (no third row).

• Cargo space is improved compared to previous generations (more usable shape, better storage).

• Safety / driver assist: IQ.DRIVE suite is standard or widely available. Features include Adaptive Cruise / Travel Assist, Lane Assist, Blind Spot / Rear Traffic Alert, Park Assist, etc. 

Fuel Economy, Towing & Efficiency

• Fuel consumption in Canada is about 9.2 L/100 km for models with AWD in certain trims.

• Towing capacity: up to ~ 1,800 lbs (depending on drivetrain/trim) for AWD versions.
